Fruit Smoothie
1 cup milk 1 cup ice-cream or yogurt
1-2 cups of bananas
1-2 cups strawberries
Put all ingredients in a blender. Blend to the desired flavor and texture. You can add other fruits for variety of flavor. Raspberries, mangos, and kiwi are great additions.
Baked French Fries
3 large potatoes, each cut lengthwise into 8 wedges
1/4 cup olive oil
Salt and pepper to taste
Preheat 350 degrees. Place potatoes in a large bowl. Lightly cover with olive oil. Salt & Pepper to taste. Arrange potatoes in a single layer 13x9-inch baking dish. Bake at 350 degrees for 50 minutes or until tender.
Baked Sweet Potato fries w/sesame seeds
3 sweet potatoes, each cut lengthwise into wedges (about 2 pounds)
1/4 cup olive oil
1 tbsp sesame seeds
Preheat 400 degrees. Place potatoes in a large bowl. Lightly cover with olive oil. Sprinkle with sesame seeds. Salt & Pepper to taste. Arrange potatoes in a single layer 13x9-inch baking dish. Cover and bake at 400 degrees for 50 minutes or until tender.
Gomasio
1 cup unhulled sesame seeds
1 to 2 teaspoons salt
Roast sesame seeds in a dry pan over medium heat until the seeds begin to pop and become aromatic. Place seeds in a suribachi and begin to grind. Roast sea salt the same dry pan and add warm salt to seeds 1/2 teaspoon at a time. Grind seeds well until 3/4 of the seeds are ground open and texture has a meal-like feel. Top fish, grains, or vegetables with mixture.
Fruit Pops
Choose your child's favorite 100% fruit juice drink.
Fill a Popsicle carton with 100% Fruit Juice. Freeze overnight and serve.
Garlic Mashed Potatoes
4 large potatoes (substitute sweet potatoes or can use 1/2 Russett and 1/2 sweet)
1/2 cup milk (can substitute soy milk)
1-3 cloves of pressed garlic (depending on taste)
3-4 TBSP butter
Peel potatoes and boil in saucepan until potatoes are tender. Remove potatoes from hot water and place in large mixing bowl. Mash potatoes with a potato masher. With a garlic press, season potatoes with garlic. Add the 1/2 cup of milk and butter slowly while stirring. Stir until milk is absorbed and desired consistency is achieved. Salt and pepper to taste.
