Summary of Medical Literature

Evaluated CAM in Children with Cancer

Integrative, complementary, or alternative medicines are terms used to describe health care systems or therapies which generally fall outside the mainstream of conventional medicine. Complementary medicine therapies are increasingly being used by cancer patients, including children with cancer. To date, there have been limited peer-reviewed, scientifically conducted analyses of these therapies.

The Integrative Therapies Program is dedicated to providing health care professionals as well as patients and families with the current state of knowledge on complementary medicine therapies and children with cancer. The following listings of clinical studies in children with cancer are categorized by complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) therapy or topic. Study abstracts or summaries are provided where available. Research studies were gathered through PubMed and Medline, databases of medical and scientific information. Only studies conducted with humans and that are in English are included.
